History of the Search Engine – What Came Before Google?
Although we credit Google, Yahoo, and other major search engines for giving us the system we use to find the information we seek, the concept of hypertext came to life in 1945 when Vannaver Bush urged scientist to work together to help build a body of knowledge for all man kind. He then proposed the idea of a virtually limitless, fast, reliable, extensible, associative memory storage and retrieval system. He named this device a memex.

But there is a long list of great minds that have given us the information system we now use today. This article illustrates some of them. Here is the History of the Search Engine:

Ted Nelson
Ted Nelson created Project Xanadu in 1960 and coined the term hypertext in 1963. His goal with Project Xanadu was to create a computer network with a simple user interface that solved many social problems like attribution. While Ted’s project Xanadu, for reasons unknown, never really took off, much of the inspiration to create the WWW came from Ted’s work.

George Salton
George Salton was the father of modern search technology. He died in August of 1995. His teams at Harvard and Cornell developed the Saltons Magic Automatic Retriever of Text, otherwise known as the SMART informational retrieval system. It included important concepts like the vector space model, Inverse Document Frequency (IDF), Term Frequency (TF), term discrimination values, and relevancy feedback mechanisms. His book A theory of indexing explains many of his tests. Search today is still based on much of his theories. History of the search engine uses some of the same techniques even today.

Alan Emtage
In 1990 a student at McGill University in Montreal, by the name of Alan Emtage created Archie; the first search engine. It was invented to index FTP archives, allowing people to quickly access specific files. Archie users could utilize Archie’s services through a variety of methods including e-mail queries, telneting directly to a server, and eventually through the World Wide Web interfaces. Archie only indexed computer files. With Archie, Alan Emtage helped to solve the data scatter problem. Originally, it was to be named archives but was changed to Archie for short.

Paul Lindner and Mark P. McCahill
Archie gained such popularity that in 1991 Paul Linder and Mark P. McCahill created a text based information browsing system that uses a menu-driven interface to pull information from across the globe to the user’s computer. Named for the Golden Gophers mascot at the University of Minnesota, the name is fitting, because Gopher tunnels through other Gophers located in computers around the world, arranging data in a hierarchical series of menus, which users can search for specific topics.

Tim Berners-Lee
Up until 1991 until there was no World Wide Web. The main method of sharing information was via FTP. Tim Berners-Lee wanted to join hypertext with the internet. He used similar ideas to those underlying the Enquire (a prototype created with help from Robert Cailliau) to create the World Wide Web, for which he designed and built the first web browser and editor, called WorldWideWeb, and developed on NeXTSTEP. He then created the first Web server called httpd, short for HyperText Transfer Protocol daemon.

The first Web site built was at: http://info.cern.ch / and was first put online on August 6, 1991. Tim Berners-Lee created the World Wide Web Consortium in 1994. Tim also created the Virtual Web library which is the oldest catalogue of the web. The history of the search engine is a fascinating story

XQuery: The Search Language For A Multi-Platform Future
The advent of wireless internet access has made web design a very complicated matter. Previously, all web browsers were created equal. HTML was the only language used to create web sites, and it was only possible to go online with a desktop PC.

Since the turn of the century, cyberspace has changed. It is now possible to surf the world wide web using a wide variety of wireless gadgets, such as cell phones, palm tops, laptops, computer screens in automobiles, etc. As a result, new programming languages and specifications that are more versatile than HTML have evolved to create websites that can be displayed on the new web browsers utilized by these various devices.

Languages such as XML, XHTML, XSL, and a host of other programming innovations were developed because web sites coded in basic HTML were not being displayed properly on the browsers installed on all these neat gadgets. XML is a language that enables data to be displayed across all platforms because XML is a simple text file that merely defines data, it does not tell the web browser how to display the data. XSL and XHTML were created so that XML could be transformed into a web page.

Now that you have a basic understanding of how and why programming has changed, you are ready for a brief introduction to the main topic of this article, XQuery. XQuery was invented so that there was a way to query data stored in an XML document, much the same way SQL is used to query a database.

XQuery uses simple functions to query a document. An XQuery function looks a little like a javascript function in that it uses parentheses containing an element that is to be the object of the function. With XQuery, the element in parentheses is typically the name of the document or file to be queried.

To find what it is looking for within that file, XQuery narrows its search by using path expressions that look a lot like the path for an ordinary file stored on your computer, with the various subsets of data within the XML file separated by backslashes. The predicate is the final component of an XQuery function. The predicate tells the function exactly what information, data, or range of data within a particular subset is to be extracted and returned to the user.

For example, an XML file for a dating website would contain a list of men and women who have posted their profiles on the website. Some of the people in the XML file might be classified as single, while others might classified as divorced. The XML file would also contain the age of each man and woman.

If a woman were to visit that dating website and perform a search for profiles of only single men who are over the age of 30, that search request would be converted into an XQuery function that would contain a path that would tell the function to search through the list of men who are classified as single, and the predicate would instruct the function to return only the profiles of the single men who are older than 30.

Learning how to use XML, XHTML, and XQuery is of critical importance to every web designer or programmer. There are now so many ways to connect to the internet using computers that run on different platforms that are no longer compatible with many elements of the HTML programming language. Web designers need to be conscious of this and start designing web sites that utilize XML and XQuery.

——————————————————————————–

Good web design is something that can be achieved relatively easily by sticking to a small set of guiding principles and avoiding some very common mistakes.

Truly excellent web design skills are born out of years of experience, dedication and plenty of hard-learned mistakes. Fortunately, being truly excellent at web design is not a pre-requisite for building a fantastic website and the lessons learned from those mistakes can be passed on without the hardship.

This article contains some of the principles which I have learned the hard way and the easy way. Each principle is fairly obvious but so many designers ignore them for one reason or another and the consequence is a hard-to-use, poor looking site that is difficult to manage and fails to make the top 1000 in Google. If your website adheres to the principles below it will almost certainly be much healthier, and you and your visitors will reap the benefits.

1. Keep Everything Obvious – Don’t Make Me Think

The book entitled Don’t Make Me Think!: A Common Sense Approach to Web Usability by Steve Krug is one of the best selling books on the subject of web design and usability. Personally, I think thinking is a good thing but at the same time I don’t want to be struggling to figure out how to submit a web form!

Visitors to a website expect certain conventions, breaking these is a great way of losing visitors. People expect to find the navigation at the top of a page or on the left hand side. Logos are mostly found on the top left. Much research has been conducted into how people view and use web pages. The good news is that you do not to know all of this; instead look at how larger companies such as eBay, Amazon, Google, Microsoft structure their pages and the language they use, then emulate them.

2. Limit Colours

A website using too many colours at a time can be overwhelming to many users and can make a website look cheap and tacky. Any users with colour blindness or contrast perception difficulties may even be unable to use the site.

Limiting a palette to 2 or 3 colours will nearly always lead to a slicker looking design and has the added bonus of simplifying your design choices, reducing design time.

Software like Color Wheel Pro can greatly simplify the creation of a pallet by showing which colours sit well together. If you really do not have the eye for design then software like this provides the perfect way of escaping monotone or badly combined colour schemes.

If your site uses blue and yellow together or red and green then it may present problems to anyone suffering with colour blindness. Vischeck.com provide free software that can simulate different types of colour blindness.

3. Be Careful With Fonts

The set of fonts available to all visitors of a website is relatively limited. Add to that the possibility of a user having a visual impairment then the options become even smaller. It is advisable to stick to fonts such as Arial, Verdana, Courier, Times, Geneva and Georgia. They may not be very interesting but your content should be more interesting than your font and if it can’t be read, what is the point of having a site?

Black text on a white background is far easier for the majority of people to read than white text on a black background. If you have large amounts of text then a white or pale background is far more user friendly. Always ensure that there is a good contrast between any text and its background. Blue text on a blue background is okay as long as the difference in shade is significant.

Verdana is often cited as being the easiest to read on the screen. Georgia is probably the best option for a serif font.

4. Plan for Change

If you fix the height of your page to 600 pixels will you still be able to add additional menu items without completely redesigning your page?

The ability to add or remove content from a website is fundamental to the ongoing success of it. Having to rewrite the entire web page or website each time you want to make a small change is sure fire way to kill your interest in your own site and will negatively impact your overall design and usability.

Getting a good idea of how your website is likely to grow will clarify how best to structure your layout. For example, a horizontal navigation is often more restrictive than a side navigation unless you use drop down menus; if your navigation is likely to grow and you hate drop down menus then your design choice has been 99% made for you!

Understanding how to use Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), avoiding unconventional layouts and complicated backgrounds will all help enormously.

5. Be Consistent

Again, don’t make your visitors think! About how to use your site at least. If your navigation is at the top on your homepage, it should be at the top on all other pages too. If your links are coloured red ensure the the same convention is used on all sections.

By using CSS correctly you can make most of this happen automatically leaving you free to concentrate on the content.

6. Keep it Relevant

A picture is better than a thousand words but if the picture you took on holiday is not relevant to your Used Car Sales website then you should really replace it with something which reflects the content or mood of the page; a photo of a car perhaps!

If you can take something off of your web page without it adversely affecting the message, appearance or legality of your website you should do it without hesitation.

Avoid the need to add images, Flash animations or adverts just because you have space. This wastes bandwidth and obscures the intentions of your website. If you absolutely must fill the space, then exercise your imagination to find something as relevant as possible.

Keeping your content focused will ultimately help your search-engine rankings.

7. Become a CSS Expert

Cascading Style Sheets should be any web designer’s best friend. CSS makes it is possible to separate the appearance and layout of your page from the content. This has huge benefits when it comes to updating and maintaining your site, making your site accessible and making your site easy for search engines to read.

CSS at a first glance is very straightforward but is definitely worth investing in one or more books. Two great books are: CSS the Missing Manual by David McFarland and Bulletproof Web Design by Dan Cederholm.

8. Avoid Complexity

Using standard layouts for your web page will save you development time and make your site easier to use. Pushing the boundaries nearly always leads to quirky behaviour, cross-browser problems, confused site visitors and maintenance headaches. Unless you really do like a challenge then avoid complexity wherever possible.

Many standard layouts are freely available online with much of the boring, repetitive work already done for you.

The principles above all border on common sense and are well known to most people, yet so many sites continue to deviate away from them and suffer as a consequence. Following these principles will help you keep away from trouble, although it still doesn’t guarantee it!

Just about everyone has a website today. Certainly, if you’re in business one way or another, you have a website. And people have different objectives behind their sites. Some are content-driven. Others provide an online service and have sophisticated user interfaces. Others still are designed to entertain and amuse their visitors. But regardless what your website is designed to do, there are a few primary objectives you should keep in mind before you start building.

This first website objective is FOCUS. Your site needs to have a narrow and specific focus. Why is this? Because there are literally millions of websites out there and the visitors you’re lucky enough to attract will only take a few seconds to decide whether they’ll stick around or whether they’ll simply click the back button and continue browsing elsewhere. Within those few seconds, your site needs to communicate exactly what it’s designed to do so the visitor can decide if it meets his or her needs or not.

One of the best exercises to enhance the focus of your site is to establish a 15 to 25-word positioning statement that guides all your development activity going forward. Think about it like a mission statement. It should articulate exactly what your website does in just 15 to 25 words.

Another way to look at it is to do a Google search for a keyword in your field and see what comes up in the results page. Under each listing, there’s a short description of what that site is all about. As it turns out, the search engines get that description from the meta tags on those websites but it’s exactly the same thing. What do you want YOUR description to say?

Once you’ve established a positioning statement, you should display it prominently on your homepage. It should be one of the first things visitors see when they land on your website. And as I mentioned above, the same statement should be included in your meta tags as your site description. That way, the search engines know exactly what your site is about at the same time. And if your site shows up in a search results page, that description will show up as part of your listing.

The second objective is DEPTH. Again, this objective serves your visitors as well as the search engines. Build a massive amount of content all about your narrow business focus. That way, if a visitor lands on your website and decides in the first few seconds that they need what you’re providing, they’ll go on to find a ton of resources all about that topic, satisfying their need and establishing trust along the way.

Depth of content helps your website with the search engines as well. Google uses complicated algorithms to assess value to different websites and one of the biggest things they look for is content. If your website has a narrow focus and lots of content about that focus, it will get ranked higher within your area of expertise. Google will consider your site a good resource for people searching for your narrow focus.

The third objective is to make your site STICKY. This is a relatively new term that describes a website’s ability to keep a visitor on the site. A lot of sites do a fairly good job of attracting visitors but many of those visitors take one look at the site and leave within a second or two. As I mentioned earlier, the positioning statement can do a lot to help someone understand what your site is designed to do. But you need more than that to keep them browsing.

The visitor needs to see immediate value when they visit your site. They need to see something that will benefit them right away. They need to see something they can use to make their own lives better. This is the foundation behind today’s value-first marketing moniker. People have been over-marketed and have become skeptical in clever marketing slogans. They want to see the value. They want proof that you can deliver. They want to sample your product or service before they buy anything.

You should spend some time and think about what you can offer your website visitors as soon as they land on your site. It could be information. It could be a tool or calculator of some kind. It could be a free subscription. It could be an entertaining video or an interactive game they can play. Whatever it is, you need to capture your visitor within seconds and guide them to something that will benefit them.

Once they’ve received one piece of value, give them a second and then a third. Guide them through a maze of value, encouraging them to continue browsing and discovering even more. This is the key to a sticky website and you can get a good idea of your progress by measuring your average time on the site through your analytics platform.

There are a million different websites out there and they’re all designed to achieve different objectives. But each one of those websites can be a bit better by incorporating more focus, depth and stickiness. All three improve your website’ effectiveness and all three offer benefits with the search engines as well.

——————————————————————————–

There are many aspects in regards to search engine optimisation. There are on-page procedures such as optimising meta tags, titles, page copy, urls, alt tags and the like. We also know that another important aspect is off-page seo whereby a lot of time and effort is put in in order to obtain quality inbound links to your site. This normally takes the shape of directory submission, article writing and submission, competition analysis, social media marketing and blogging to name a few.

These are all crucial elements of search engine optimisation and are a major part of any seo specialists daily chors.

One element of SEO that can be easily overlooked is the building of a web site that is not only “user friendly” but also “search friendly”. By “search friendly” we mean that the search engines can crawl and spider your site unimpeded which will enable it to extract all of your content and in turn index it within the search engines database. After all, what use is getting thousands of inbound one way links to your site, if your site is not user or search friendly?

There are a number of things worth considering when building a user and search engine friendly web site. They are:

Use as much text as possible in the form of HTML – Search engines love plain text. They are not able to read images, video files, audio files or flash, so try to not use too much of these in your site design.

Another thing to consider is that some sites make users log in in order to view certain content or use a form to find content. Both of these are bad. Spiders/crawlers do not know how to log in to your site or fill out a form in order to find your content. So if you want your content to be indexed by the search engines, stay away from this. If you MUST do this, try to produce a snippet of the content to entice users to log in. That way the spider at least has something to chew on.

Make your urls understandable – This means creating urls such as www.mysite.com/how-to-bring-up-your-children.html and NOT www.mysite.com/children/article-09876R-YTUR-4tr.html. As you can see the first url is not only “user friendly” but is also “search engine friendly” meaning that the search engines read more meaning and relevance into this url than the second one. Dont forget also that if you were to copy the second url into an email, your signature or post on a blog etc it wouldn’t be totally clear where the link was going. This cannot be said for the first url.

Structure your site well – This means making your site as flat as possible. Instead of structuring your site in way that means a user has to click 10 times before reaching their target make the content a maximum of 4 clicks away or less.

Design your site for users NOT search engines – As much as possible treat the search engines as if they were human beings manually scouring your site for content to index. If it is easy for humans to find what they are looking for on your site, logic says that the spiders will also find what they are looking for and index it. The more “speedbumps” you put in the way of spiders, the slower your site will be crawled and indexed (if at all).

Content is king – One of my favorite expressions which is so true. Great content has many benefits, after all, its what we are all after, even the search engines. The search engines job is to find “relevant” search data. When the search engine starts dishing out “irrelevant” results, thats the time when it is going to become out of favour with web users who will move onto another engine.

Having great site content has many benefits such as if your content is good and original, people will want to link to it and your site, so its a good way of building natural links which is something that google likes. If you write good genuine creative content on your topic you will start to become an authority in your chosen field meaning more links and brand/site awareness.

The more content you have the more opportunity you will have of inserting your keywords making it look as natural as possible to the search engines. Although keyword density is no longer a major factor with search engines, it is something that needs to be done.

Well, thats the end of this article with some tips on making your site not only “user friendly” but just as importantly “search friendly”. It is something that can be easily overlooked especially as gaining backlinks is viewed as THE most important SEO practice at the moment.

Overlook it at your peril!!

Until next time…

——————————————————————————–

I asked one of them what it is. He replied no, however he had read somewhere on the net.
On the net I found one definition by Jason Dowdell of Global Promoter, he wrote: “authority sites are sites that have been linked to and referenced on other web sites covering the same subject matter and they also will have hundreds if not thousands of pages covering that subject matter and nearly every facet of it.”

While as per Google Research Scientists and Engineers Bharat and Mihaila, “We believe a page is an authority on the query topic if and only if some of the best experts on the query topic point to it. By combining relevant out-links from many experts on the query topic we can find the pages that are most highly regarded by the community of pages related to the query topic. This is the basis of the high relevance that our algorithm delivers.”

And as per Miles Galliford “An Authority Site can be defined as a website that sets out to be a leading online source of information for a niche subject.”

From above definitions it is apparent that the Authority sites are content based websites because they are frequently updated with the latest news, features, reviews, case studies and stories. Also they have 100s of pages created naturally and most important they are related to the topics. Another feature of authority sites is that they are linked from 1000s related pages. Also the authority sites contains outbound links to the pages which are very related to the topics. The increasing numbers of sub-domains of a website also make it an authority site.

What you got? Answer is that an authority website is:

Which have lot of incoming and outgoing links to and from related pages,

Each page contents, information and the pages are up-to-date.

Beside above factors you should consider following if you want to own an authority site:

You should have as many RSS feeds as you can muster to incorporate throughout your site. Your visitors need to be able to receive RSS feeds for any keyword, category or archive as well as create their own. One feed is no longer enough to satisfy your visitors,

You should be engaging the minds of your visitors at all times using surveys, commenting and feedback. Make these features easy for your visitors and your site will grow exponentially. Why? Because they feel like you actually care about them. Interaction is a powerful tool and creates a sense of community on your site,

You should post to your blog often and you should always provide quality and original content. That doesn’t mean you need to produce 800 word articles three times a week. You goal should be to become a news master. You need to be an “authority” on the news happening in your nicheNote:

Remember creating an authority site is not easy, however it is not impossible, but you should be patient and consistent.

An example of an authority website: About.com

What are Sneaky JavaScript redirects?

Whenever search engines indexes a page containing JavaScript, it will index that page but it cannot follow or index any link hidden in the JavaScript itself. Use of JavaScript is an entirely legitimate web practice. However, use of JavaScript with the intent to deceive search engines is not, for example, placing different texts in noScript tag and JavaScript.

What this means? It means that the search engine sees the text in the noScript tag, while actual text will be different in the JavaScript which can be viewed by visitor. Such type of trick is not liked by many of search engines, and if they noticed it your website will be penalized for ever.

Beside this there is another point to note that the embedded link in JavaScript which redirects the user to different pages with the intent to show the user a different page than the search engine sees is also the violation of the webmaster guidelines.

Please don’t worry about the placement of link within JavaScript is alone not deceptive, it is legitimate because that link is not redirecting. However the best practice is that you might instead keep links outside of JavaScript or replicate them in a noScript tag.

What are Doorway pages?

Doorway pages are pages specifically made for search engines. Doorway pages contain many links – often several hundred – that are of little to no use to the visitor, and do not contain valuable content. In this regard, the best practice is the use of HTML sitemaps, which is valuable resource for your visitors, but ensures that these pages of links are easy for your visitors to navigate.

If you have a number of links to include, consider organizing them into categories or into multiple pages. But in doing so, ensure that they are intended for visitors to navigate the sections of your site, and not simply for search engines.

What is Keyword stuffing?

Keyword stuffing refers to the practice of loading a webpage with keywords in an attempt to manipulate a site’s ranking in SERPs. Filling pages with keywords results in a negative user experience, and can harm your site’s ranking. Focus on creating useful, information-rich content that uses keywords appropriately and in context.

Please Stay tunned Part 3 of this series is comming soon.

We at LakhoSoft take care all of these items liked by search engines especially the Google, in our search engine optimization services.

Instead of doing large amount of SEO I been watching and observing the SEO world, that what is happening around and who is gone down and who is gone up and who has maintained itself and WHY?

Answer is in three short sentences:

Gone down or vanished from SERPs because of Black Hat techniques,

Gone up because of white hat techniques and frequent updated of the contents, and

Maintained because of same as in point 2.

As I have written short notes about the Black and White Hat SEO techniques, in this article I will write more detail of don’ts in search engine optimization process. (Note: following are notes are detailed from the webmaster guidelines of Google, for the courtesy of our readers)

Avoid hidden text or hidden links.

Don’t use cloaking or sneaky redirects.

Don’t send automated queries to Google.

Don’t load pages with irrelevant keywords.

Don’t create multiple pages, subdomains, or domains with substantially duplicate content.

Don’t create pages that install viruses, trojans, or other badware.

Avoid “doorway” pages created just for search engines or other “cookie cutter” approaches such as affiliate programs with little or no original content.

If your site participates in an affiliate program, make sure that your site adds value. Provide unique and relevant content that gives users a reason to visit your site first.

Hidden text or hidden links

What is hidden text? Some webmasters do hide the keywords on web pages to misguide the search engine. In simple words, they hide text with white fonts behind white background, text behind the images, setting size of the fonts to zero and/or using CSS. Actually this fake text is for search engine crawlers while the visitor of site sees different text on the pages.

While the hidden links are intended to be crawled by search engines, but are unreadable to visitor, they achieve this by choosing the same colors for the link text and the backgrounds, by reducing the size of the fonts, or using CSS to create tiny hyperlinks which can’t be seen by users/visitors.

By doing above tricks yes you can see your website at top positions of SERPs but remember, hiding text or links in your content can cause your site to be perceived as untrustworthy since it presents information to search engines differently than to visitors. In fact, you will be banned for all search engines.

What is Cloaking?

According to Google cloaking is “a website that returns altered WebPages to search engines crawling the site.” In other words, a human reading the site would see different content or information than the search engine robot reading the site. Most of the time, cloaking is implemented in order to improve search engine ranking by misleading the search engine robot into thinking the content on the page is different than it really is. This illegal trick is achieved by Serving a page of HTML text to search engines, while showing a page of images or Flash to users and/or Serving different content to search engines than to users.

In case, if your site contains Flash, JavaScript, or images, you shouldn’t provide cloaked content to search engines. Instead Provide alt text that describes images for visitors with screen readers or images turned off in their browsers and provide the textual contents of JavaScript in a noScript tag. However, make sure to provide the same content in both elements.

Stay Tunned, Part 2 is comming Soon.

I have noticed that many times the images on websites are not optimized. I think web developers always overlook this important point as far as search engine optimization is concerned. In my opinion there is lot of stuff written about the SEO and all positives and negatives of search engine optimizations are there at the net, tones of information are available. But still I can find web pages without properly optimized images. In this regards, it make sense to write few notes about the image optimization and its benefits to reader of my blog.

Remember, beside Meta tags and title tags, optimization of images is also the overlooked part of the on-page optimization. Make note of few benefits of properly optimized images at your web page:

Will reduce loading time noticeably,
Search engine will send you more visitors via image searches,
Optimized images can attract more visitors to your web page.

Now, how to achieve this, please read following paragraphs:

Reduce the size of the images, if you have loaded relatively large size of images at the web pages, in fact it will increase the browser loading time, and consequently reduce the visitors. So it is important to reduce size of the image.

But there is another point to note that when you reduce the size of an image it will loose its quality and it is another negative factor for your website. Now if we reduce the size images are loosing its quality and if we keep original size then the page loading time is increased. To overcome this situation, experts are advising that convert images into thumbnails and load at page, then upload your original images at online directory of your site. Integrate rollover link at the thumbnails or put text link under respective images to the original graphics, like “Click to View Enlarged Image” etc.

Another factor I noticed that the images names are not properly assigned. Many images on WebPages are named as image-1.jpg, 123.jpg etc. If images at you site web pages are named like this then change these names, like if the image is of car change it to car.jpg, and it is Toyota car then rename it Toyotacar.jpg etc. Doing so, images with proper names, will help search engines determining the type of contents and specifically the image searches.

Third important factor is the ALT tags; all images should include short alt text that describes the image. Alt tags helps search engine spiders understand what your image is about, which will help them to understand the context of your page better, and in turn gives you more targeted organic traffic via search and image search.

Another very important factor which should be avoided is Putting Text in Images. Yes at some occasions where text in an image is necessary like headers, but in general it should be avoided at all costs. It’s best to have the text actually readable by both the search engine and screen readers. To avoid this use CSS, create graphics without text and write text using CSS, and then make the graphic a background image of the text using CSS.

It is fact that flashy and dynamic websites tells about the quality of design and looks great as far as the visitor’s sight is concerned, but in real internet world, the contents are the most important if you talk about the selling, these are the words which are used in sell. Yes, you will get 100% marks due to the great eye catching look of site but the contents are the one which gives you the real output in form of $$$.

Also the other important aspect of the quality contents is that the most of search engines will give you high rating because of quality contents, which consequently would give you organic visitors to your site and here are more dolor coming in your account.

So, here I am again talking about the quality related contents to your web sites. When you think you should have a website, consider following:

The first step is to create a plan about your website, so write the goals of the site, that what you want to achieve from the website? Keep main goal in the mind, outline that what related information should be included and how that information will be distrusted on the page(s) of the website.

Keeping product(s) and the service(s) in your mind think what information you want to share with the visitors of your web site at what page so that those visitors become your future prospects. For example, information about your company at ‘about us’ page, product information at the product page(s) and the services information at services page of your web site. Also put few testimonials that were given you buy your previous clients about your services and the products.

Additional information you need to add are:

o When visitor are on the website and even they liked your service and/or the product, it is human nature that few question might come in the mind, or before buying, they want to look for more info or the procedure to acquire your services, In this regard, create FAQ (frequently asked questions) page.

o Think about publishing press releases on your site, which is a small paragraph gives more or updated/latest information about the service or the product.

o Think about writing articles on article pages, which is a form of the expression of your expertise and services. An article is the most favorable type of contents for your web site. In articles you can educate your client about your product and service.

o And finally think about adding reports, work samples and material regarding your previous projects.

Collect few related links and place on the somewhere at the bottom of page(s) as courtesy for your visitors which might be useful for your clients. However, these links should not be of your competitors. Here you can add your affiliated links, another form of earning.

As I mentioned at the start of this article, that beside your requirements of website visitor, the contents are very important as far as Search engines are concerned. Therefore, before writing contents, create a list of keywords and phrases which you must distribute evenly and in enough amount of repetition on a web page. So that, the goals of selling and the satisfaction of search engines is achieved. This will help you to increase new visitors from search engines.

Keep contents simple and clear, avoid long paragraphs, if it is deem necessary, then use bullets, because, practically it is hard to read on screen. So remove extra words in sentences and express in short sentences.

Avoid putting extra info about your service and product which might be not necessary, the visitors are there at your site for useful and effective information, putting unnecessary large amount of text will disappoint the visitor, and you don’t want to loose a future prospect.

Avoid complicated words and business terms because, assume that visitors are not familiar with these business terms, which might confuse them.

In the last but not least avoid linked famous words like “Click Here” etc, these words are oldfashioned, instead prefer descriptive linking keywords. Also, doing so, your website’s position in search engine will improve.
