When you have website in fact it is great site by every mean; design and contents. But it will give you nothing until people knows that you got the website and you are selling product and/or service(s). To bring visitors on your site you would advertise your site on paid directories, advertising classified website, even you will go for PPC (pay per click) services. Beside this you will also hire expensive SEO (Search engine optimization service) provider to gain search engine organic/free targeted traffic.

But there are still few ways, which are overlooked by most of webmasters and entrepreneurs. There are lots of obvious ways in which you can get targeted traffic:

Bookmarks in news, networking websites: In the recent internet, I am sure you might have come across the term social networking or bookmarking etc website resources, which are basically news, video, photo sharing sites. But from the modern internet marketing practices it is became obvious source of targeted traffic to your site. Honestly, its use is become the challenge to SEO professionals and their future, because the time has arrived that steams of discussion are started in the comparison of SEO. (I will write separate article for the SEO and SMO (Social media Optimization). Here, I just want to say that, it is the new way of very efficient way to have desired visitors to your site. I know more than 100 social websites from which you can establish this kind of traffic.

Add bookmarking link at your website: Add the link at your home page, asking visitors of your site to bookmark your website. Beside this old fashion link add few linked icons of social networking sites. Codes of these icons and widgets are found easily at the respective social networking sites.

Promote your site in mailing lists, Forums etc: there are many of targeted e-mail based discussion lists, chat rooms and news groups provided by the internet people free of cost with categorized pages. Where you can sign-up and select the category and start discussion. You can spend one or two hours weekly searching for groups where a conversation is taking place. Do not use aggressive marketing and overly plug your company, even if you see some people doing so. Instead, add to the discussion in a helpful way and let the signature at the end of your e-mail or post message do the marketing for you. People will gradually get to know and trust you, visit your website, and do business with you.

Use additional viral marketing techniques: Use your site visitors and customers; many have their communication networks, to spread the word about your web site. Some examples include word-of-mouth, public relations, referrals, blogs, and other forms of network marketing.

Become an online expert in your field: Use your expertise to become an expert in your field and promote your website for free. Sign up for Yahoo Answers or Google Answers and Google webmaster, and answer questions asked by online visitors. You will have the opportunity to write your company’s URL in your profile. It is a great way to gain additional Internet exposure as well.

Use your business cards: When you plan to have stationary for your company; like visiting cards, letterheads and brochures don’t forget to add your website URL

Use your daily and day to day emails communication: Utilize signature option of your email client as a way to bring visitors to your website. Add your company name, address, phone, fax email and URLs of your business website and the blog.

Use newsletter: Ask your web designer to create a quality, yet a simple newsletter template. Start publishing a monthly or fortnightly newsletter which is one of the very best ways to keep in touch with your prospects, generate trust, develop brand awareness, and build future business. Don’t forget to place your URL along with your other contact information, in each newsletter you send out.

Use press releases: When your business has an event, create press releases and submit online news channel (also add it to social networking sites) sites. Use these opportunities to mention your company’s URL near the bottom of each news release. There are many online press releases or news websites, including PRWeb.com, PRWire.com and others you may use to promote something exciting happening within your company.

Write articles: Start writing articles about your business and express your expertise. These articles, you can add to your newsletters, submit these in article directories like articledashboard.com etc. Also these article links can be added to the bookmarking website. Remember here in articles you can add linked keywords which will also be great as far as SEO is concerned. Many article directories allow you to place two to three linked key words with each article you submit in resources box.

Traditional means: be sure to include your URL in any display or classified ads you purchase in trade journals, newspapers, magazines, yellow pages and more. Ask an expert to create an attractive add for you which contains the offers, services, products info in brief. Now place URL of your website where the visitors can obtain more information and perhaps place an order. Look carefully at small display or classified ads in the back of magazines or trade periodicals. Sometimes these ads are more targeted, more effective, and less expensive than online advertising. Consider other traditional media to drive people to your site, such as direct mail, classifieds, post cards, etc Note: From above notes you would see that many Medias for placing your articles are inexpensive and free, but very effective.

One of My clients was asking that how to read an analyticle report and what is this and what is that? From these questions, I thought to have write few notes about the analyticle reports which would be benificial for my clients and the readers of this blog.

Deffination:

A web analytics is a series of reports of quantitative indicator of the behavior of the visitors of the website. It tracks the movement of visitor and the reason of his/her visit. In other words, it provides the clear report of the performance of your website and the trends. From these reports and trends the website owner creates and implements more effective program to increase sales.

Web Analytics are based:

Collection of visitor’s data from logfiles, and

by tagging each webpage with a Javascript.

A third web analytics method is a combination of the two whereby more relevant data can be produced than what is possible with either of the two methods.

Web Analytics Terms:

Number of visits means that how many visitors landed on any page of your website from any source. In the case of log files of server, it will log several files for each visit, while the page-tagging script will only consider the page as a whole seen by the visitor. In either case, each web analytics data will clearly identify if the visitor is new or has come before.

Page Views means different for the two web analytics methods. While tagging script considers the whole page as one request, the logfile on the other hand will record multiple hits (one for each file, including images, .js and .css) within a single page-view.

Hits denotes requests for files from server and is recorded only in logfile.

Unique visitors means new visitors, it is noticed by logfiles as well.

The length of time a visitor spends in seeing a website.

The keyword phrase used to arrive at the website.

The unique IP address and therefore the country from where the visits generated

Visits duration

Files type etc

Data transfer to and from the server is always recorded in server’s logfile with clockwork precision. And these files can be easily viewed in web analytics programs such as Webalizer, Awstats, etc. which analyze raw logfile data and portray valuable visitor information in easy-to-follow graphics.

What is difference between Logfile and Page Tagging:

Logfile analysis is usually already available in the server. Page tagging is an outsourced option, which means that visitors’ data is captured by provider’s remote server.

Logfile analysis can be viewed only in provider’s website, while Google Analytics and ClickTracks are examples of page-tagging web analytics.

Since page tagging requires javascript to be installed on every webpage, there is always a possibility that some visitors’ browsers do not allow the script to run. Whilw logfiles have no such issue.

Logfiles enter transfer of all files, including images and scripts, and therefore certain parameters like hits and page views are not as accurate as with page-tagging web analytics.

While logfiles record visits by search engines, page tagging does not.

Logfile web analytics record failed visits too. Page tagging takes a request into account only when a webpage is successfully displayed.

Web analytics is a type of feedback from visitor which is available all times. These reports are a great source by which you can analyze relative strength and weakness of your website. From these, you can find which pages are most visited and which keywords are more related to your web site.

The Definition:

Data Management is the comprehensive series of procedures to be followed and have developed and maintained the quality data, using the technology and available resources. It can also be defined that it is the execution of architectures under certain predefined policies and procedures to manage the full data lifecycle of a company or organization. It is comprised of all the disciplines related to data management resources.

Following are the key stages or procedures or disciplines of data management:

1. Database Management system

2. Database Administration

3. Data warehousing

4. Data modeling

5. Data quality assurance

6. Data Security

7. Data movement

8. Data Architectures

9. Data analysis

10. Data Mining

1. Database Management system:

It is one of the computer software from various types and brands available these days. These software are designed for specifically for the purpose of data management. These are few of these; Ms Access, Ms SQL, Oracle, MySql, etc. The selection of any one of these depends upon the company policy, expertise and administration.

2. Database Administration:

Data administration is group of experts who are responsible for all aspects of data management. The roles and responsibilities of this team depends upon the company’s over all policy towards the database management. They implement the systems using protocols of software and procedures, to maintain following properties:

a. Development and testing database,

b. Security of database,

c. Backups of database,

d. Integrity of database, and its software,

e. Performance of database,

f. Ensuring maximum availability of database

3. Data warehousing

Data warehousing, in other words is the system of organization of historical data, its storage capability etc. Actually this system contains the raw material for the management of query support systems. That raw material is such that the analysts can retrieve any type of historical data in any form, like trends, time stamped data, complex queries and analysis. These reports are essential for any company to review their investments, or business trends which in turn will be used for future planning.

The data warehousing are based on following terms:

a. The databases are organized so that all the data elements relating to the same events are linked together,

b. All changes to the databases are recorded, for future reports,

c. Any data in databases is not deleted or over written, the data is static, readable only,

d. The data is consistent and contains all organizational information.

4. Data modeling

Data modeling is the process of creating a data model by applying and model theory to create data model instance. The data modeling is actually, defining, structuring and organizing the data using predefined protocol. Then the theses structures are implemented in data management system. In addition, it also will impose certain limitation on the database with in the structure.

5. Data quality assurance

Data quality assurance is the procedure to be implemented in data management systems, to remove anomalies and inconsistencies in the databases. This also performs cleansing of databases to improve the quality of databases.

6. Data Security

It is also called as data protection, this is system or protocol which is implemented with in the system to ensuring that the databases are kept fully safe and no one can corrupt by access controlling. The data security, on other hand, also provides the privacy and protection to the personal data. Many companies and governments of the world have created law to protect the personal data.

7. Data movement

It is one term broadly related to the data warehousing that is ETL (Extract, Transform and Load). ETL is process involved in data warehousing and is very important as it is the way data is loaded into the warehouse.

8. Data Architectures

This is most important part of the data management system; it is the procedure of planning and defining the target states of the data. It is, realizing the target state, describing that how the data is processed, stored and utilized in any given system. It created criterion to processes the operation to make it possible to design data flows and controls the flow of data in any given system.

Basically, data architecture is responsible for defining the target states and alignment during the initial development and then maintained by implementations of minor follow-ups. During the defining of the states, data architecture breaks into minor sub levels and parts and then brought up to the desired form. Those levels can be created under the three traditional data architectural processes:

a. Conceptual, which represents all business entities

b. Logical means the how these business entities are related.

c. Physical, is the realization of the data mechanism for specific function of database.

From above statements, we can define that the data architecture includes complete analysis of the relationship between functions, data types and the technology.

9. Data analysis

Data analysis is the series of procedures which is used to extract required information and produce conclusion reports. Depending upon the type of the data and the query, this might include application of statistical methods, trending, selecting or discarding certain subsets of data based on specific criteria. Actually, data analysis is the verification or disproval of an existing data model, or to the extract the necessary parameters to achieve theoretical model over realty.

10. Data Mining

Data mining is the procedure to extract unknown but useful parameters of data. It also can be defined that it is the series of procedures to extract the useful and desired information from large databases. Data mining is the principle of sorting the large through the large amount of data and selected the relevant and required information for any specific purposes.

Scenario
You are upgrading your web site and as part of the upgrade, it means moving and renaming particular files.

Danger
Search engines have indexed your entire site and many pages rank well. By moving and renaming these files, you run the risk of losing a lot of traffic and leaving visitors to your site who follow a search engine link with the dreaded “Error 404 – File not found”

Strategy 1 – Custom Error Page
You could create a custom error page. The problem with this solution is that:

a) You will lose rankings on the next search engine update as the file will appear to be non-existent. It could be some time before the page in it’s new location or with a new name reappears.

b) Your web site visitors may be frustrated by the fact that they then have to dig through your site to find the desired information.

Strategy 2 – Meta Refresh
A meta refresh can be implemented in the statement of your source code in blank page with the old file name, which then automatically redirects visitors to the new page. Example:

Warning: This is a technique often used by spammers to trick search engines and it should be avoided, unless the page is in a section of your site that isn’t spidered.

What the search engine spammers do is to create a page that is optimized for certain keywords and phrases – it usually has no real content. The page is then picked up by some search engines, but when a visitor clicks on the search engine entry, they are redirected to another site, often unrelated.

It’s a despicable trick, but thankfully most search engines have filters to detect this. Using this form of SE deception will see a site eventually banned or penalized by major players such as Google.

Strategy 2 – 301 Redirect
A 301 redirect is the most efficient and spider/visitor friendly strategy around for web sites that are hosted on servers running Apache (check with your hosting service if you aren’t sure). It’s not that hard to implement and it should preserve your search engine rankings for that particular page. If you *have* to change file names or move pages around, it’s the safest option.

A 301 redirect is implemented in your .htaccess file.

What is a .htaccess file?
When a visitor/spider requests a web page via any means, your web server checks for a .htaccess file. The .htaccess file contains specific instructions for certain requests, including security, redirection issues and how to handle certain errors.

What is a 301 redirect?
The code “301″ is interpreted as “moved permanently”. After the code, the URL of the missing or renamed page is noted, followed by a space, then followed by the new location or file name

How do I implement a 301 redirect?
First of all, you’ll need to download the .htaccess file in the root directory of where all your web pages are stored. If there is no .htaccess file there, you can create one with Notepad or a similar application. Make sure when you name the file that you remember to put the “.” at the beginning of the file name. This file has no tail extension.

If there is a .htaccess file already in existence with lines of code present, be very careful not to change any existing line unless you are familiar with the functions of the file.

Scroll down past all the existing code, leave a line space, then create a new line that follows this example:

redirect 301 /old/old.htm http://www.you.com/new.htm

It’s as easy as that. Save the file, upload it back into your web and test it out by typing in the old address to the page you’ve changed. You should be instantly and seamlessly transported to the new location.

Notes: Be sure not to add “http://www” to the first part of the statement – just put the path from the top level of your site to the page. Also ensure that you leave a single space between these elements:

redirect 301 (the instruction that the page has moved)

/old/old.htm (the original folder path and file name)http://www.you.com/new.htm (new path and file name)

A more powerful set of directives for manipulating URLs is contained in the Apache mod_rewrite module, especially useful when changing domain names and/or folder names containing large numbers of files. Read our basic tutorial on the apache mod_rewrite module.

Redirecting entire sites with 301
The 301 directive is quite powerful. You can redirect not just single files but entire sites, for example when changing domain names e.g.

redirect 301 / http://www.you.com/

The first “/” indicates that everything from the top level of the site down should be redirected. As long as you are using the same paths and filenames, then this option is a very simple way to perform site redirection in the situation where you have only changed your domain name.

If the site redirection doesn’t work for you, check to ensure you have the trailing “/” on the destination URL. You may also like to try some of the other suggestions in our basic tutorial on the apache mod_rewrite module.

Canonical issues: www vs. non-wwwThere’s been much talk lately of canonical issues and search engines. This is where both the www and non-www versions of your pages are listed in a search engine. This is said to possibly trigger a duplicate content penalty and/or split page rank. If this is of concern to you, you may wish to use the following, but be aware that you may suffer a further loss of traffic while the engines sort out what’s what. This example is where you wish to direct all non-www traffic to www. Add the following to your .htaccess file.

Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^yoursite.com [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.yoursite.com/$1 [L,R=301]

Ensure that all your links to folders always end in a trailing / if there is no filename after that link.

FrontPage users: in addition to the above, you’ll also need to change the .htaccess files in:

_vti_bin
_vti_bin /_vti_adm
_vti_bin/ _vti_aut

Replace “Options None” to “Options +FollowSymLinks”

Those folders are part of your FrontPage extensions on the server, so you’ll need to gain access via FTP.

Note: test, test and test again after making changes. Test *immediately* after implementing 301 redirects. If you find anything wrong, remove the redirect immediately. User a server header checker to ensure that you’re getting a correct 301 response when using the old URL.

Search engine spiders & 301 redirects
The 301 redirect is the safest way to preserve your rankings. On the next spidering, the search engine robot will obey the rule indicated in your .htaccess file. The search engine spider doesn’t actually read the .htaccess file, but recognizes the response from the server as valid.

In the next update, the old file name and path *should* be dropped and replaced with the new one. Sometimes you may see alternating old/new file names during the transition period, along with some possible fluctuations in rankings as things settle. Don’t panic – this is normal and may take a number of weeks before everything is back to normal; but the bottom line is, any change you make has risks – whether it’s altering page text, moving/renaming pages or changing domain names. Search engines run by their own rules and can change those rules at any time.

If you’re changing domain names and using a 301 redirect, you’ll need to leave the old domain name and files in place for a few weeks to give the major search engines time to catch on to the changes and don’t forget to notify your link partners of the domain name change as soon as possible. Once you deactivate the old domain, any search engine kudos you’ve built up through those links will be gone.

A company Identity is a simple, well formulated and designed, yet self expressing logo or signage, which is the company’s visual identity, it is also called Company brand or Brand Identity. Company Identity designing is a visual aspects of any organization.

The designer uses its imaginary creative power to merge all aspects of the company into this simple signage. This in fact, will be used on through out the company; such as the product, stationary, advertising, websites, email templates etc.

What it does?
Company identity also helps consumers remember the company, and often what brings them back. The right identity design can be one of the company’s strongest marketing tools as it expresses the values, and strategic vision of a company into a consistent image that consumers become familiar with.

A logo is a tangible concept that gives the company a visual identity, and is design such a creative ways that, it attracts the new consumers and reminds the old consumers, therefore the design should be very attractive and all in one.

The job of the Company ID designer is to provide innovative ways to combine words and images to express the key message of a company, and the goal of the designer is to show consumers that the company is concerned about how it looks.Company ID design is a creative approach that focuses on the needs of the client in areas such as identity, marketing communications, environment, and product branding.

A brand designer uses design and strategic thinking to help companies to find an appropriate brand identity that will help them prosper in competitive marketplace, and the ongoing task of a brand designer is to make sure the brand remains fresh and effective.

What if it remains same?
No, it never. An effective company logo is also never static; instead a company’s brand should evolve as the company evolves. This may mean modernizing the visual image from time to time in terms of logo, tagline, colors, design, etc., but still it should stay close to the heart of the brand and what it stands for.

Brand design is a creative and pragmatic approach that focuses on the needs of the client in areas such as identity, marketing communications, environment, product branding, packaging, and website design. A brand designer uses design and strategic thinking to help companies to find an appropriate brand identity that will help them prosper in competitive marketplace, and the ongoing task of a brand designer is to make sure the brand remains fresh and effective

Writing for a website; as far as contents are concerned; Yes! it is very important to have quality and related contents on each page of the website. But the most important considerations should not be forgotten, that are; the fonts, styles, the size and spacing etc.

When you start writing keep following considerations in every step:

Text is hard to read

Typical computer monitors have a resolution of 96 dpi comparing that with a printout from a laser printer that has a resolution of 600 dpi, and it’s not hard to figure out why the text on a computer places a strain on the eyes. It is because text is more difficult to read on-screen, people often read slower, comprehend less, recall less, and do less in response. That means your will not get benefits if you have not create balancing in the writings on the web pages.

How you should write

Write such a way so that you can explain the important points in short paras:

Because of the strain placed on readers when reading on a computer screen, you can’t expect them to read a long stories. It has been found that most readers tend to scan an article before reading. Articles longer than 1,000 words will likely turn off your audience and result in few people reading your article (and therefore fewer visitors coming back to your site in the future). You should condense your writing to include only the most crucial points and eliminate everything else. Writing successfully for the web forces you to present only the necessary content and leave the rest out.

Utilize headings and bullets and lists:

You should make it easy for them to find what they’re looking for by using headings, bold type, and lists. A great way to turn a print article into a readable web article is to transform it into a top 10 list. Lists make it easy for readers to scan and read only what they are interested in.

Use plenty of links and make them obvious

Since linking is the primary advantage of a web writer, it should be used early and often. Linking allows you to provide the reader with a roadmap of information. With your article as a starting point, your reader should be able to find more information about any and all topics discussed in the article. Common things to link to include reference pages, news sources, audio and video, forums, and applications that will enhance the reading experience.

The best thing about links is that the user can choose which ones to follow and which ones to ignore. That allows you to reference something without citing the entire thing as you would have to in a print article. One of the most important things to remember when linking is to make it visually obvious that a section of text is a link. Five years ago it was common place to use the standard blue underlined text for linking, but as the web has evolved, most designers have abandoned that style for better looking links. Site designers can still make links obvious by consistently using a different color than standard text and by providing a hover effect, such as underlining the link and changing it’s color, when users place their cursor over the link. This subconsciously tells them that the text is a link.

Write with the search engines in mind

Since much of the content on the web is found via search, it makes sense to write with the search engines in mind. No, this doesn’t mean that you should stuff your articles with keywords to the point where they are barely readable. But it does mean that you should write titles and headings that actually convey what your article discusses. For example, this article could be called “Content Evolution” or “Digital Distribution.” If it were a magazine article, those titles or other titles might have been more appealing, but they don’t capture the essence of the article, which is “Writing for the Web.” If someone were to search for an article on writing online, they’d likely use a phrase like “how to write for the web” or “writing practices for the web” which would turn up this article, but probably wouldn’t turn up an article with one of those other titles.

Answer to your question is to make sure that your websites are fully crawlable is very important factor of your SEO, especially if you want your sites to rank well for multiple keyword phrases.

One of the ways that you can insure that a search engine spider crawls your site very easily if there is “Site Map” page created within your website. A “site map” is a very simple page, which has less importance as far your targetted traffic is concerned, but wehn we talk about the SEO , this has one of most important purpose that is the search engine optimizers, which helps to get those interior pages into a search engine’s index easily and promptly.

What is Site Map?

A site map is a page that contains a basic HTML link to every page on your web site. A Site maps do not need to be fancy, they just need to contain a logical order and links to all of your pages.

Why are we advised, that every web site should have it?

Here are the benefits, First, a site map gives your customers an easy navigation to every page in your web site. Now, don’t confuse the use of a site map as a replacement for logical navigation on your regular pages. You want to make sure that your site can be navigated simply and easily from any page on your site. However, very few surfer prefer to see the entire site’s structure on one page and choose their destination from it.

Second and important, a site map is a fantastic way to get a search engine spider to see and crawl every single page in your site. When optimizing different pages in your web site for different keywords, a Site map is a perfect solution for ensuring that a spider can get to every one of those optimized pages.

Third, and this is also important, that a Site Map provides an opportunity to send link reputation to a particular page. it is perhaps one of the most important factors in off line search engine optimization.

From above, we can say that, the site maps are also an additional way to distribute Google page rank. If your site map is just one link off of the first page, it can pass a significant amount of Google page rank deep into your web site. This helps create a site structure where just about every internal page has the same chance of ranking as well as your home page.

Finally, The link of Site Map should be placed on every page of your site

About Us page
The About Us page is a important place for visitors of your site to find out who you are, what your comapny does, what you sell, why they should read your content or buy your products, how valuable your site can be. Visitors of your site and target traffic need an easy way to get in touch with you or your company. Have a clearly marked link for contact information and include every avenue you receive communication through, like Telephone and fax numbers, e-mail addresses, physical addresses, etc. all should appear on this page.

A Site Map
This page has very high importance as far as SEO is concerned, because this page contains all of your site page links and their mapping. So when any search engine crawls your site URL can crawl every page if it sees the well formulated site map.
