Quality and Quality nothing else (Part 1)
Instead of doing large amount of SEO I been watching and observing the SEO world, that what is happening around and who is gone down and who is gone up and who has maintained itself and WHY?
Answer is in three short sentences:
-
Gone down or vanished from SERPs because of Black Hat techniques,
-
Gone up because of white hat techniques and frequent updated of the contents, and
- Maintained because of same as in point 2.
As I have written short notes about the Black and White Hat SEO techniques, in this article I will write more detail of don’ts in search engine optimization process. (Note: following are notes are detailed from the webmaster guidelines of Google, for the courtesy of our readers)
- Avoid hidden text or hidden links.
- Don’t use cloaking or sneaky redirects.
- Don’t send automated queries to Google.
- Don’t load pages with irrelevant keywords.
- Don’t create multiple pages, subdomains, or domains with substantially duplicate content.
- Don’t create pages that install viruses, trojans, or other badware.
- Avoid “doorway” pages created just for search engines or other “cookie cutter” approaches such as affiliate programs with little or no original content.
- If your site participates in an affiliate program, make sure that your site adds value. Provide unique and relevant content that gives users a reason to visit your site first.
Hidden text or hidden links
What is hidden text? Some webmasters do hide the keywords on web pages to misguide the search engine. In simple words, they hide text with white fonts behind white background, text behind the images, setting size of the fonts to zero and/or using CSS. Actually this fake text is for search engine crawlers while the visitor of site sees different text on the pages.
While the hidden links are intended to be crawled by search engines, but are unreadable to visitor, they achieve this by choosing the same colors for the link text and the backgrounds, by reducing the size of the fonts, or using CSS to create tiny hyperlinks which can’t be seen by users/visitors.
By doing above tricks yes you can see your website at top positions of SERPs but remember, hiding text or links in your content can cause your site to be perceived as untrustworthy since it presents information to search engines differently than to visitors. In fact, you will be banned for all search engines.
What is Cloaking?
According to Google cloaking is “a website that returns altered WebPages to search engines crawling the site.” In other words, a human reading the site would see different content or information than the search engine robot reading the site. Most of the time, cloaking is implemented in order to improve search engine ranking by misleading the search engine robot into thinking the content on the page is different than it really is. This illegal trick is achieved by Serving a page of HTML text to search engines, while showing a page of images or Flash to users and/or Serving different content to search engines than to users.
In case, if your site contains Flash, JavaScript, or images, you shouldn’t provide cloaked content to search engines. Instead Provide alt text that describes images for visitors with screen readers or images turned off in their browsers and provide the textual contents of JavaScript in a noScript tag. However, make sure to provide the same content in both elements.
